The updated line of Radian RXT Car seats

Oh boy do I have the scoop for you!! Sunshine Kids will be changing their name to Diono and releasing some updated car seats!  Just yesterday I met with my Diono sales rep who showed me all of their awesome updates.  My thoughts about the updates in two words? LOVE THEM!

So Sunshine Kids will be changing their name and branding to Diono.  No, they haven’t been bought by another company, etc.  They’re just making an adjustment to their branding and image to better position themselves in the market.  Aside from branding and image, not much else is changing.  They will still be making all the same car seats, but making them BETTER, with some awesome updates!  Their new name, Diono, doesn’t mean anything in particular, but it will be quicker and easier to say and will allow the company to grow globally.

But enough about the new name…let’s get down to the nitty and gritty – the car seats.

Diono’s updated line of car seats is scheduled to be available in October.  They will continue to offer the Radian line of seats, the Monteray, and Sante Fe, but with a few updates.

For the Radian line of seats (Radian 65SL, 80SL, and XTSL) they are now usable from BIRTH to BOOSTER!! Yes, booster!!  That means that when you’re child is ready for the booster stage, all you have to do is remove the 5 point harness and the car seat is now a booster seat!  I am so excited about this change because it means that one car seat will last you through all three stages (rear-facing seat, forward facing seat, and booster).  You can save a little money!

Fast facts on the Diono Radian car seat updates:

• now usable from birth to booster – you can use the seat as a booster by un-threading the 5-pt harness. 120lb capacity as a booster (which is the same as it is now as a convertible car seat)
• the seat back of the car seat is now 2″ wider
• you can still fit 3 Radian car seats across in your car (this is based on a 51″ standard width bench seat)
• 4 cup holder spots
• pivoting arm rests – they call them arm rests though I don’t think they’re really arm rests…but the little wings on the side of the seat (where the cup holders are attached to in the pic below) now rotate outward to accommodate a larger child
• new fabrics and colors added
• better infant positioner – it’s bigger and, I think, more usable for those tiny babies!
• 10 year lifespan – because these car seats are usable from birth to booster, you potentially could use the seat for 10 years!

Have you ever seen the frame of the Radian car seats? Well here it is! It's all steel and super strong. These seats are pretty hefty, and this is where that weigh comes from.

The Diono Monteray will be exactly the same as the Sunshine Kids Monteray that is out right now.  The only changes are to the fabric selections.  There have been no changes to the specifications of the seat.
